Pieces of the Puzzle
Aircraft investigators are kept busy with a number of recent flying incidents ranging from relatively minor mishaps, like landing without landing gear deployed, to major accidents resulting in loss of life.
The article “Fishing for Chips” in the March-April edition of CASA’s Flight Safety magazine describes how investigators try to extract information from electronic devices like smart phones, iPads and other devices they find. This can add “a major piece to the accident puzzle”.
Surely, it would make their job a lot easier if there is a dedicated Wingmate on board that logs all relevant flight data continuously.
Faster and improved accident investigation will ultimately lead to safer skies for all.
